WOW! Thrust into an unfamiliar and imagination-rich world from page one, this story hits the ground running!

Don’t expect any long, boring scenery descriptions here. The book is perfectly paced to keep you on the edge and in the story from beginning to end and the conversation flows naturally and with great detail to reflect the characters personality traits, quirks, flaws and situations.

I have not had the pleasure of reading the first book, The Demon Abraxas, (which I am definitely buying to read, as well as the rest of the series) but the details about the intricate relationship between all the characters, not only Ana, Abraxas, Sabel, Lily and Brie, and even the different groups is fascinating and very well crafted!

The back story is beautifully intertwined and the shift between the many layers and relationships keeps you glued to the pages. Can love prevail?

Really looking forward to the next book!

This is the first book of Rachel’s that I’ve read, so thought I would let you all know what other readers and bloggers are saying about the book. (Spoiler Alert – they all LOVE it!)

One of my favourite things about the worldbuilding in this book was how Calish described magic in the modern world. I love modern fantasy, and the way Sabel visualized the universe to do her magic really stood out for me. The demonology was also really interesting, which we learn as Ana does, since she’s the newest in the group to come into the magical paradigm. There was a bit of an American Gods vibe to the mythology. I found myself liking everyone, even adversaries. There was always something interesting about them and something interesting going on.

How could I not fall for this book…
I loved the characters in the book both for their depth and personality and for the LGBT side of the story, which I enjoy promoting. The lead characters has so much depth I genuinely felt as though I had known them my whole life, by the end of the book. I liked their attitudes and the way they handled situations. They were strong, defiant and courageous, even when they knew they were doomed to face darkness and trouble everywhere they went. They always stuck by their team and their love, never second-guessing just because there was an easier way. I also thought that Calish did extremely well to create a similar depth and detail for the secondary characters.

I really wasn’t sure if I’d like The Demon Gabriella, and was wary about it being the second book in the series. I can put that worry to rest right away for anyone who might want to pick this up. You’ll get enough information you don’t NEED to read the first book in the first chapter of this book. I have however, started reading The Demon Abraxas because I loved the writing style enough to want to read more by Calish.
